Seam Binding

Seam binding is the perfect partner for bunting! And any project where straight, raw, cut fabric edges need binding to stop them from fraying away.

Also known as ‘rustic taffeta’ and not to be confused with bias binding which does a similar job but on curved edges.

Seam binding is available in two widths and does exactly what it says on the tin. It binds the raw, unfinished allowances of a seam or fabric to neaten and strengthen. If you use a contrast colour it can also look extremely decorative and can give a basic garment a professional looking couture finish.

Top Tip

Use 25mm wide seam binding for bunting. If you can help it, don’t use bias binding. It can twist and ‘rope’ as you work and will stretch from the weight of even the smallest flags. Seam binding is stronger and more stable and has sealed edges so you can fold over the raw top edge of fabric and sew.
